If you be lookin’ fer a first mate, perhaps a pirate wench costume this Halloween is the way to go. Arrr!
Pirates were known to keep a wench or two in every port they sailed into, and Hollywood is an abundant source of inspiration for this kind of look. Films like the recent “Pirates of the Caribbean” series and the 1983 comedy “Yellowbeard” provide excellent examples.
Start off with a bright colored dress (red does the trick nicely) that has a peasant style top matched with a flared skirt. Some bow accents and exaggerated ruching on the sleeves adds a dash of romance that will surely melt the hardest pirate heart. Don a double lace-up velvet corset and a velvet skirt overlay, then a pair of brown or black knee-high stiletto boots over fish net hosiery. A wig with long, curly tresses topped of with a large pirate hat complete the pirate wench costume.
